JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT - SCHOOL LIAISON

Chris Canny (Junior Development Co Ordinator)

During the year the Club hosted visits from Marist College in October ’25 and in March ’26. The students were in the Year 10 P.E. program, and our visit was part of their “Lifelong Sports” subject where they go to experience sports which are different and new to them. There were four Groups of up to 25 students who came for one-hour sessions over four weeks. They enjoyed learning the basics of bias and weight before being able to compete in a small competition amongst themselves. Some comments were interesting. They found Lawn Bowls “challenging” and “more tactical” than they thought. The most popular comment was that they all had fun. I would like to thank the Club members who helped out with the visits and who assisted in making it such a positive experience.

SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM

Green Day on the Greens

The Club hosted the School Holiday Program in April 2026. The event was attended by some 80+ children primarily between the ages of 7 – 12 years.

Brian Hansen, as Co-ordinator, worked hard to ensure that the Club was compliant in every regard – that all volunteers had Working with Children Certificates; that the Club had an Evacuation Plan and that all volunteer helpers were thoroughly briefed on the five skill set activities designed to ensure that the children would be entertained and kept occupied for the hour- long sessions.

Special thanks are extended to Brian & Marita Hansen, Chris Canny, Kevin Rooke, Janine Dunstan, Ron Payne, Peter Burchell, Desma Budd and Bob Shippard for their support in guiding the children through each of the activities as part of what proved to be a very enjoyable and successful day.
